Day 1 Depart U.S.A.
This evening begin your vacation with an overnight flight to Santiago.

 

Day 2 Santiago
Arrive Santiago in the morning. You'll be met and transferred to the beautiful Ritz Carlton Hotel. This afternoon you will have a 3 hour city tour covering the highlights of Santiago such as the Plaza de Armas and the lively Central Market.

Day 3 Explora Patagonia
Today you fly south to Punta Arenas, gateway to Torres del Paine, the Chilean side of Patagonia. You will be met and transferred to the Explora Lodge, a five hour scenic journey by land to one of the most remote and beautiful areas of the world. Explora Lodge, a Scandinavian-style lodge, is well-equipped with jacuzzi, sauna, heated swimming pool and a kitchen featuring regional foods.

Days 4,5 & 6 Explora Patagonia
Choose each day from five guided adventures designed for visitors of all fitness levels -- on foot, horseback, by boat, or by minivan. One excursion is on horseback to Laguna Verde stopping for a Magellanes-style barbecued lamb lunch; another includes a boatride and hike right up to touch a glacier. The Explora package includes all meals, excursions and transfers.

 

Day 7 Rio Australis Cruise
Early this morning you will be transferred back to Punta Arenas and taken to the pier to board the new expedition ship, Via Australis, for a 4 night cruise terminating in Ushuaia, Argentina. After a welcome cocktail you will set sail on your exciting cruise. You'll be sailing a legendary route discovering glaciers, fjords, virgin forests, penguins, sea lions, vestiges of indigenous populations, and the southernmost cities of the world. The itinerary includes daily shore excursions, and a full range of on-board activities -- navigation lessons, cultural and scientific lectures about the region, table games, a mask party, and dancing.

Day 8 Australis Cruise
Disembark in Aisworth Bay near Marinelli Glacier, where you'll take a walk to see the beaver dams and the Magellanic forest. You'll pass a sea lion colony, getting a close look! This afternoon, visit a small colony of Magellanic penguins at Tucker Islet.

 

Day 9 Australis Cruise
Today a visit to Agostini Bay where you can appreciate the Serrano Glacier and then the D'Agostini. Disembark in Condor Bay, near the Condor glacier. An excursion by zodiac allows you to go ashore and take a walk to an observation point. Hopefully you'll see the sudden fall of enormous chunks of ice, calving off the glacier face. Then you sail through the Straits of Magellan to reach Brecknock Channel.

 

Day 10 Australis Cruise
After navigating Desolation Bay and through the O'Brian Channels, enter the north west extension of the Beagle Channel to experience majestic "Glacier Alley" -- featuring the España, Romanche, Alemania, Francia, Italia and Holanda glaciers.

 

Day 11 Australis Cruise/Depart
Early departure from Puerto Williams for the north side of the Beagle Channel and arrival at the port of Ushuaia. You will be ready to disembark at 9am. You will be met at the pier and transferred to the Ushuaia Airport to board your connecting flight to Buenos Aires for your return flight to the U.S.A.
